Whether applying that has been the subject of reproach. More, less, the same. Everybody wants their words to be taken as their true representation. Nobody wants their words to be distrusted or dismissed. So do we apply special rules to the issue wrt women? Have those rules changed? I don’t know about the past versus today or if the rules have changed. What I know as a guy, both as a boy and now a man is that the Code of Men is Say what you Mean and Mean what you Say. Directness, forthrightness, clarity, and earnestness are valued and respected. Therefore, if I grow up believing I should treat a woman like a man since we are the same except for “social constructs” and “gender conditioning” than I should communicate with a woman in the same way and expect the same in return. Ha. Any guy expecting and operating from a default assumption that most women will communicate directly, forthrightly, clearly, earnestly are in for a world of confusion and frustration as demonstrated by the example with your buddy.
